Small changes in balance, walking speed or confidence can make everyday movement feel harder than it should. A community mobility and balance screening camp gives older adults and their families a simple way to understand these changes before they begin limiting daily life.
What the screening includes
During the camp, physiotherapists observe comfortable walking, turning, standing from a chair and maintaining balance in safe positions. The aim is not to rush participants through exercises, but to understand how strength, coordination, vision, footwear and confidence work together.
Each participant receives clear, individual guidance. This may include a short home exercise plan, advice on safer movement around the home, or a recommendation for a more detailed clinical assessment when needed.
Who can benefit?
The camp is especially useful for older adults who have noticed slower walking, unsteadiness, fear of falling or difficulty getting up from a chair. Family members are welcome to attend so that recommendations can be understood and supported at home.
Preparing for the camp
- Wear comfortable clothing and regular walking footwear.
- Bring a list of current medicines and any walking aid you normally use.
- Share any recent falls, dizziness or changes in confidence with the physiotherapist.
A short screening can turn uncertainty into a practical next step—helping people stay active, independent and connected to the routines that matter to them.
